Vandals Set Fire to NYPD Cars in Brooklyn Police Lot

Early Thursday morning, someone set fire to at least 11 NYPD police cars in a parking lot in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. near Central and DeKalb avenues, close to the 83rd Precinct. Security cameras showed a person dressed in black jumping the fence and lighting the cars on fire with special fire starter devices. Firefighters arrived quickly and put out the flames. Luckily, no one was hurt, but several cars were badly damaged.

Police are calling this an act of arson and are investigating with help from the NYPD’s Arson Squad and federal officials. The suspect ran away after a security guard spotted them, but investigators found evidence left behind, including a torch lighter and more fire starters that didn’t go off. Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch visited the scene and strongly condemned the attack. They said damaging police property is a serious crime and promised to find whoever is responsible.

This attack happened just hours after protests against immigration enforcement took place in Manhattan. Police are looking into whether there is any connection between the protests and the fires in Brooklyn. Community leaders are asking everyone to protest peacefully and not resort to violence. The NYPD is still searching for clues and is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
